Forgiveness as Healing – Self-Care Routine

Forgiveness does not excuse violence or injustice, but it prevents bitterness from taking root in our hearts. True healing requires us to let go; when we forgive, we unchain ourselves from the pain of the past. Faith calls us to forgive as we have been forgiven, even in moments of deep suffering. Such forgiveness is not weakness—it is a strength inspired by God’s Spirit. In forgiveness, we discover healing. By releasing resentment, we make room for peace to flourish.

Understanding

Forgiveness is a journey that begins with understanding: to forgive is not to excuse wrongdoing. Violence and injustice remain unacceptable. Yet, holding on to bitterness only deepens our wounds. By choosing forgiveness, we free ourselves from emotional chains and burdens. This act opens our hearts and allows peace to grow within us.

Spiritual Calling

Forgiveness is also a spiritual calling. Our faith encourages us to extend grace to others just as grace has been extended to us. Even when forgiveness feels impossible, it is an act of inner strength, not weakness. Each choice to forgive helps us grow and find hope.

Let go

Letting go does not mean forgetting or erasing what has happened. We may always remember the pain, but forgiveness allows us to move forward. As we release resentment, the heavy weight on our hearts begins to lift, making way for hope and peace to settle in.

Don’t resist

If we resist forgiveness, bitterness can quietly take root, making us feel cold and distant. However, with each act of forgiveness, we uproot bitterness and nurture the seeds of peace. These seeds, over time, will blossom into healing and joy.

Forgiveness isn’t always easy, especially when the hurt is deep.  Who do you need to forgive today to invite healing into your life? Reflect on this question and consider how forgiveness could create space for peace and joy within you.
