I love gardening. I have been a gardener for years and never realized how growing plants can help you reduce stress, anxiety, and more. After I finish working in my garden, I feel relaxed and at peace. Gardening can also be used as a coping strategy. It’s a wonderful way to stay balanced. Here’s how gardening can help you balance your mind, body, and soul.

The Mind

A garden is a place to practice mindfulness.  When you perform gardening, you block out negative thoughts, improve your attention span, and reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s.  I forget about my problems and concentrate on my garden. Gardening can help you stay mindful.  If you have a difficult day, go buy some seeds and potting mix.

The Body

You are always moving when you are gardening.  You must prune, lift, plant, and more.  Harvard Health Publishing wrote, “People in the gardening group increased their physical activity levels by about 42 minutes per week”.  It doesn’t seem like a lot, but it does help me to control my weight, and I am doing something I enjoy.

The Soul

When I am surrounded by nature, I feel closer to God.  God is the one who created all of nature and its glory. Acts 14:17 stated, “He did good and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”  It shows how God provides for us and wants to develop a relationship with us. It is simple and beautiful.  Go outside and reflect on the beauty of God.

Conclusion

Gardening can help with self-care.  It can help you balance your mind, body, and soul.  You don’t have to invest a lot of money to start, and you don’t have to buy a lot of plants or seeds.  Just start growing.
