Trust your instincts: If It Feels Wrong, Don’t Do It

Listening to Your Instincts as the Ultimate Form of Self-Care

Trust Your Inner Voice

Many of us grew up being told to be polite and keep the peace. As a result, we often ignore our feelings. However, your instincts exist for a reason. Whenever you sense something is off, it is not just anxiety. In fact, it is your body’s way of saying, “Protect your peace.” Because your spirit is wise, it speaks even when you do not want to listen.

Recognize the Signs of Discomfort

Physical signs often reveal emotional discomfort. For instance, you might feel tightness in your stomach. Sometimes, there is heaviness in your chest. Or, your thoughts may start to race. You may feel drained around certain people. Occasionally, dread creeps in before an obligation you agreed to. These signals are not random. Instead, they are your body’s way of warning you. So, pay attention to them.

Honor Your Feelings, Not Just Obligations

This week, give yourself permission to honor these feelings. Self-care doesn’t always look perfect. Sometimes, it means canceling plans. Other times, it is turning off your phone. For example, you might walk away from conversations that feel too heavy. You can even say “no” without guilt. At times, silence is more powerful than any reaction. Making these choices is not selfish. Rather, it is an act of self-respect.

Practice Emotional Protection

When you trust your instincts, you protect your emotional well-being. In addition, you teach others how to treat you. Because your peace is precious, it deserves to be preserved. After all, your clarity and spirit should never have to fight for space. Each “no” you say is a “yes” to yourself. So, choose what feels right.

Make This Your Rule

This week, start with one simple rule. If it steals your peace, it is not for you. As you move forward, let this guide your choices. Not only will you feel lighter, but you will also grow stronger. Listen to your inner voice. It always knows the way.
