Before you start studying the Bible, do you prepare your heart? Psalm 131: 1-2 states, “1 Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. 2 Surely, I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. Here are some ways to prepare your heart before your start your Bible study.
Write down your concerns
Write down your concerns and worries. Writing helps you to concentrate on your Bible Study. Writing also helps to develop a strategy for your studying. You will begin to research scripture pertaining to your subject. Finding scripture about your subject will help you focus on the word and not the world. Start planning your Bible study by writing down your strategy.
Meditate on the scripture
When you find the scripture that you need, meditate on it. Once you find that scripture, look in the concordance and find other scripture. A study Bible will have related scriptures on the same page. Look up your subject and scripture online. There are a lot of Bible apps that can help. My favorite is the You Version. Find ways to meditate on the scripture.
Pray
Prayer is important. If you do not believe that God will deliver you, he will not. You cannot let doubt cloud your mind when you speak to God. Go in a quiet place and let go of all negative emotions. Act like a child and humble yourself before God. Pray for God to reveal his will through your bible study. Do not forget to start your Bible study with a prayer.
