Slow Down and End the Day with Peace

Life can become overwhelming.

Financial concerns.

Busy schedules.

Family responsibilities.

Current events.

By the end of the day, our minds are often still racing.

Earlier this week, we talked about financial stress and how worrying about the future can rob us of today’s peace.

Joseph reminded us to trust God even when we cannot see the outcome.

Today, let’s end the week with a simple reminder that caring for ourselves is also part of faithful stewardship.

Sometimes peace begins with slowing down.

One of my favorite ways to do that is with lavender.

Why Lavender?

Lavender is one of my favorite herbs in the garden.

Its beautiful purple flowers attract bees and butterflies while filling the garden with a relaxing fragrance.

After harvesting the flowers, I dry them and place them in small sachets inside my pillowcase.

Personally, I enjoy the gentle aroma as part of my bedtime routine.

Along with prayer, journaling, and gratitude, lavender helps me create a peaceful environment before going to sleep.

Lavender Lemon Evening Tea

Ingredients

• 1 teaspoon dried culinary lavender buds

• 8 ounces hot water

• 1 teaspoon honey (optional)

• 1 slice fresh lemon

Directions

Bring fresh water to a gentle boil.

Pour the hot water over the dried lavender.

Allow the tea to steep for 5 to 10 minutes.

Strain the lavender.

Add honey and lemon if desired.

Enjoy slowly while taking deep breaths and reflecting on the blessings of the day.

Traditional Wellness Uses

For generations, lavender has been used in traditional wellness practices too:

• Promote relaxation.

• Create a calming environment.

• Support healthy bedtime routines.

• Freshen linens and living spaces.

Its pleasant fragrance has made it one of the world’s most popular herbs for relaxation.

What Current Research Says

According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health, research suggests lavender aromatherapy may help improve relaxation and sleep quality for people.

Studies are still ongoing, and results vary from person to person.

Lavender should be viewed as one part of a healthy lifestyle rather than a replacement for medical care.

Safety Reminder

Use only culinary lavender when preparing tea.

Do not drink lavender essential oil.

People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medications, or managing ongoing health conditions should speak with their healthcare provider before regularly using herbal products.

Tonight’s Peaceful Evening Routine

Instead of ending the day with worry, try this simple routine.

• Turn off television and social media one hour before bedtime.

• Brew a warm cup of lavender tea.

• Practice five minutes of deep breathing.

• Write three blessings in your journal.

• Read Matthew 6:25–34.

• End your day with prayer.

Small routines practiced consistently often create lasting habits.

Final Thoughts

America’s 250th anniversary reminds us that every generation has discovered simple ways to care for family, home, and community.

Sometimes the best gift we can give ourselves is permission to slow down.

Take a deep breath.

Enjoy God’s creation.

Trust Him with tomorrow.

Then rest in His peace.
