Finding Balance Like Mary and Martha in a Busy World
A Story Women Understand
Life can become terribly busy. Women spend their days working, caring for family, and helping others. As a result, they often feel mentally and emotionally exhausted. That is one reason the story of Mary and Martha is still so powerful today. Mary and Martha were sisters of Lazarus. They welcomed Jesus into their home. However, the two sisters responded very differently. Martha stayed busy serving and preparing everything. Meanwhile, Mary sat quietly at the feet of Jesus and listened to Him teach. Eventually, Martha became frustrated. She felt overwhelmed and wanted help. However, Jesus gently reminded her that Mary had chosen what mattered most.
The Pressure of Always Being Busy
Women today relate to Martha.
There is always something to clean, organize, fix, or complete. In addition, women carry emotional pressure that others never see. Therefore, they continue pushing themselves without taking time to rest spiritually.
However, constant busyness can leave the mind and body exhausted.
Sometimes, we become so focused on responsibilities that we forget to pause and spend quiet time with God.
Mary Chose Stillness
Mary’s choice was simple, yet powerful.
Instead of rushing around, she slowed down and listened. She understood that spiritual peace mattered more than constant activity.
That lesson still matters today.
God never asked us to destroy ourselves trying to do everything perfectly. Instead, He calls us to spend time with Him, rest in His presence, and trust Him with our burdens.
Finding Balance Today
Balance does not mean ignoring responsibilities. Instead, balance means making room for faith, peace, and rest while managing daily life.
This week, take quiet moments to pray, reflect, or read scripture. Even small moments of stillness can help calm the soul.
Like Mary, choose time with God.
Like Martha, continue serving with love.
However, remember that your soul needs care too.
